Changdeokgung Palace
Changdeokgung Palace in Seoul was built in 1405 as a royal villa. It was later used as royal residence of the Joseon Dynasty for 270 years, when Gyeongbokgung Palace was destroyed by fire during the Japanese invasion in 1592. The back garden also exhibits the characteristics and beauty of traditional Korean landscaping, with pavilons and raised buildings in harmony with the trees. Changdeokgung was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997.
