Fukuoka
Fukuoka, old name is Hakata, lies on the northern coast of Kyushu, the southernmost of the four main islands of Japan. Wrapped around a large natural harbor and surrounded on three sides by mountains, the city has been a point of contact with mainland Asia for more than 2,000 years. With a population of 1.3 million, making it the 8th largest city in Japan, Fukuoka is also the administrative, economic and cultural hub of Kyushu, and home of the Kyushu University.
