Hyder

Stewart, B.C. and Hyder, Alaska share the same region at the head of the Portland Canal. Both communities are accessible from the Cassiar Highway on the way from Watson Lake to Jasper. Hyder has an end-of-the-road funkiness that is purely Alaskan. Five miles (8km) along a gravel road from Hyder lies Fish Creek, which during July and August offers an unparalleled opportunity for a very close-up view of brown and black bears as they fish for salmon.
